This course offers an in-depth exploration of Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) and its benefits for individuals, communities, and organizations. We will examine the essential skills provided by MHFA training, such as recognizing signs of mental health challenges, responding to crises, and offering initial support and guidance. Emphasis will be placed on how MHFA enhances mental wellness and helps to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues. Additionally, the course will introduce attendees to the structure of substance use prevention providers in the state of Arkansas. We will explore the network of state and local organizations dedicated to promoting mental health and preventing substance abuse. By understanding this system, attendees will gain insights into available support resources, referral processes, and collaborative efforts to improve community mental health in Arkansas.

Jadyn McGrew graduated from the University of Arkansas–Fort Smith in 2017 with a BA in Marketing. After starting her career in social media marketing, she joined Harbor House, Inc., where she now serves as the Prevention Coordinator. As a Certified Prevention Specialist in Arkansas, Jadyn oversees substance use prevention services across six counties. In addition to her role at Harbor House, she is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.Katelynn Priest
In 2016, Katie Priest graduated summa cum laude from the University of Arkansas- Fort Smith with a BA in Psychology. Upon graduation, she accepted a position with Harbor House, Inc. She is a Certified Prevention Consultant in the state of Arkansas and now serves as the Prevention Grant Manager for Harbor House, Inc. Katie oversees two state prevention grant contracts that provide substance use prevention services to eleven counties in Arkansas. She is also a certified Youth Mental Health First Aid instructor and an Adult Mental Health First Aid instructor.
