Notes:
Psychotic symptoms, while disturbing, are part of the human experience and to some degree most people will experience one or more of them during their lifetime. This normalization of the symptoms is essential to developing empathy and understanding toward the people who are affected by these devastating conditions. This approach also reveals the best way to interact and help people who are affected. The training also looks at some best practices for helping someone experiencing a psychotic episode.
Learning Objectives:
- Define psychosis and specify disorders that have psychotic features
- Identify practices that help prevent psychotic episodes
- Explore strategies to support someone during psychotic episodes
- Build empathy and understanding for individuals experiencing psychosis
