Notes:

Workers in the Human Services field often feel stalled when talking about behavior change or goal setting with program participants. The practice of Motivational Interviewing (MI) rebuilds rapport when these conversations become confrontational or defensive. This session reviews real-life client interactions that demonstrate the foundational ‘O.A.R.S.’ skills and provides an opportunity to practice this person-centered communication strategy.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the Spirit of Motivational Interviewing and when an 'MI moment' arises
  • Review practical examples of Open questions, Affirmation statements, Reflective listening, and when to use Summaries
  • Develop a practice of responding to resistance and ambivalence with curiosity and collaboration
Fee: $0.00
Hours:2.00
